Ella Eyre – “Deeper”

Like a pop-dance version of Adele, Ella Eyre‘s big, soulful voice is complimented with a more updated sound, including some manipulations of her own voice. Good twist for someone who would otherwise likely be lost in the shadow of Adele.

Newport Folk Festival 2014

I love going to concerts and seeing live music, but had never been thrilled by the idea of music festivals. One day of Governor’s Ball after a massive rain storm and I wasn’t sure the experience was worth the insanity…

But then came Newport. My friends and I bought 3-day tickets before the lineup was even announced. It was like Christmas morning everyday a new artist was added. The festival itself was so laid back and well run that the time spent away from the stages was just as enjoyable as the performances: good food, fun vendors, great views. There was even the Family Tent where artists were featured by doing short “pop-up” sets in between main stage changes.

Above is a little montage of my time at the festival, featuring a song by Ages and Ages called “No Nostalgia”. Enjoy (and go to Newport next year)!

Sylvan Esso – “Hey Mami”

Love the arrangement of this Noisey acoustic performance of “Hey Mami” by Sylvan Esso.

Episode – “Hold On (Feat. Stefan Weiner)”

episide-stefanweiner2One part melodic beats from Episode, one part vulnerably honest lyrics and vocals from Stefan Weiner. One great song. Episode has said that this is a part of a project on “finding a balance between accepting and determining your own reality.” I can’t wait for more!

The Wind and the Wave – “Don’t You Forget About Me (Simple Minds cover)”

Breakfast Club anyone? Love The Wind and the Wave‘s folk spin on this classic.

Bloodsport – Raleigh Ritchie

Loving you is a bloodsport. Enough said:

The Saint Johns – “Your Head and Your Heart”

Hailing from Florida, this country folk duo settled down in Nashville to bring us this lovely sound:
