Governors Ball in NYC

governorsball

Tomorrow I’ll be at NYC’s Governors Ball on Randall’s Island and I am stoked to hear so many great bands. After all the rain we had the past two days, it is going to be a mud pit, but it’ll be worth it! Below is a Spotify playlist I put together so I could make a final decision on which bands to see. Wish I could be at multiple stages at once!

Mutya Keisha Siobhan – “Lay Down in Swimming Pools (Kendrick Lamar cover)”

Mutya Keisha Siobhan give a woman’s take on Kendrick Lamar‘s “Swimming Pools (Drank)”:

Phil Beaudreau – “This Is Why” + “Buried Alive”

Phil Beaudreau has found the sweet spot between soul, R&B, and rap, and still manages to throw in a splash of chill¬†nostalgia. But let’s not stop at the sound, he’s even got the mellow and smooth vocals to weave in some thoughtful lyrics. The¬†Dawaun Parker feature in “This Is Why” slips in seamlessly to open and close the song with some pace. “Buiried Alive” isn’t new, but I liked it enough to throw it in for taste of some of his other work.
